Head Start Homework

This Week

Use these activities to learn with your child every day!

Language & Literacy

Funny Family Stories

  1. This is an activity for the whole family to join in! Tell your children and family members to gather around in a circle for a funny family story!
  2. Begin the story by saying a funny sentence that is real or imagined, like “Today I ate an apple and made friends with the worm living inside!”
  3. Ask the next person in the circle to tell the next part of the story. Each person keeps adding to the story until the story is complete.
  4. (Optional). Ask someone in the group to write down everyone’s sentences and read the whole story at the end.

Family Map

BRING BACK
  1. With your child, look at the world map worksheet (provided by school, or available for printing on this page). Make a dot on the map to show where your family lives. If you'd like, write your names to label the dot.
  2. Ask your child to name other people in your extended family (or friends). Show your child where on the map people live, and have your child make a dot there. Write names if you'd like.
  3. If you’d like, add dots in other places on the map that are important to your family, like other places you've lived.
  4. Be sure to include other countries where your family and friends currently live, or who lived in the past.
