Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Close your eyes and breathe slowly in and out together.
E

Engage:

  • "Can you tell me one thing that happened yesterday, the day before today?"
  • "What are you doing right now?"
E

Encourage:

  • If your child is having a hard time remembering something from yesterday, help jog their memory. Like: Yesterday, we went to the library. Do you remember what we did after the library?"
  • Remember that time is a tricky concept for young children. It may take some repetition before they understand what "yesterday" means.
R

Reflect:

  • Does your child seem to understand the difference between yesterday, today, and now?

Not quite ready?

Ask your child to tell you a story of something that happened recently.

Ready for more?

Ask your child if they can tell you what might happen tomorrow.
