Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Invite your child to wiggle their fingers as you get ready to write and take three deep breaths.
E

Engage:

  • “Let’s try writing our family phone numbers.”
  • “Now write the number 14, what two numbers make up the number 14? Yes, a 1 and a 4.”
E

Encourage:

  • “I like how you wrote the number ____.”
  • If your child has trouble remembering how to write two digit numbers, tell your child what two numbers make up the number. For example, “Let's write the number 15. Hmmm, the number 15 has a 1 and a 5, can you write 1 and then a 5 next to each other?”
