Say, “Let’s write some numbers, what number do you want to write first?” Write the numbers with your child.

  • Place some flour on a clean table top or countertop and invite your child to spread the flour to create a writing surface.

Engage:

  • “Let’s try writing the numbers in order starting with the number one.”
  • Let’s try writing our numbers with different fingers.

Encourage:

  • “I like how you wrote the number ____.”
  • That six is really hard, isn’t it! Let’s practice making the curvy top first, and then add the circle!

Reflect:

  • “Was it hard to use different fingers as you wrote the numbers?”
