Who Said That?
Here's What To Do
Play a game of "Who Said That?." Start off several feet away on my right or left side (out of my view).
Approach me slowly while you talk or sing to me. When I turn my head to face your voice, congratulate me and say, "You found me!"
Repeat while you vary the direction you're coming from and the sounds you're making.
(Optional) Play this game with multiple family members. If there are any other children in our family, I might find their voice especially interesting.

Put PEER Into Action
Pause:
- Start by positioning me on my back, tummy, or in a supported seat so I can easily turn my head from side to side.
Engage:
- "Here I come, I'm going to get you!"
- "Now it's someone else, can you find me?"
Encourage:
- Keep singing or talking continuously as you move closer. This helps me understand the direction the sound is coming from.
- Throughout the day, talk to me when I'm not able to see you (like if you're in another room, or when we're driving in the car). This will help me learn to locate sounds.
Reflect:
- Am I able to locate the direction the voice is coming from? Do I smile or show another sign of recognition towards you and my other family members?
Not quite ready?
Help me learn to make eye contact by making funny faces at me or singing to me while looking into my eyes.
Ready for more?
Play this same "Who Said That" game but speak to me from below my line of sight or behind me.

As your child masters this skill...
They will turn their head towards someone talking, and will show signs of recognition when a familiar person talks to them.
