Here's What To Do

Talk with your child about how rules or the ways we do things might differ in different situations, like inside or outside voices at school, or running outside but walking inside.

Help them to pick a familiar rule they’d like to focus on, or they can make two rules they think are important.

Now make two posters showing the rule in two different contexts.
- For example, in a quiet area like above a baby sibling’s crib they can write “Talk quietly/ whisper.” In an area where they play they can write and draw about how they talk there.
- Remember, scribble writing is okay too!

Pause:
- Take a few deep belly breaths together then smile at each other.

Engage:
- “You can make posters to remind us about the rules in different areas.”
- “What rule would you like to make a poster about?”

Encourage:
- Ask guiding questions to help your child think about rules that might vary.
- For example, “Can you run inside your room? Can you run outside?”

Reflect:
- “Where should we put the posters so everyone can see them?”

Help your child to notice different rules in the community, such as different speed limits in different areas.
