What Do I Look Like?

Here's What To Do

1

Look into a large mirror with me. I am learning that the person in the mirror is me!

2

Point out our body parts (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.).

3

Describe some of our physical characteristics, and point to them in the mirror as you talk about them.

4

Do a silly dance in the mirror together!

Mother and child play together (animated).

Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Position us in front of the mirror, and give me a kiss on the cheek.
E

Engage:

  • "Look! There are Mama's eyes! And there are your eyes!"
  • "I have straight brown hair and brown eyes. You have curly brown hair and you also have brown eyes!"
E

Encourage:

  • While looking in the mirror, let me hold a hat and then put it on my head. Seeing the hat in my hands and then in the reflection will help me understand that I'm the person in the mirror.
  • After we eat, help me clean my face in front of a mirror. Let me see my dirty face, then let me clean it with a washcloth while looking in the mirror. This will help encourage the connection between me and my reflection!
R

Reflect:

  • Do I seem to know that I'm the person in the mirror?

Not quite ready?

Keep playing mirror games with me, and eventually I will learn that I'm seeing my own reflection.

Ready for more?

Help me learn more about myself by praising my specific strengths. Like: "You are so kind, you helped your sister" or "You can run so fast!"
