We’re Stuck
Here's What To Do
1
Tell your child that you will play a game where you will pretend to be stuck in different locations.
2
“We’ll pose and hold still to act it out.”
3
Suggest different scenarios, such as pretending to be under a table, stuck in a small box, stuck to sticky chewing gum as you try to walk, and stuck with your hands in the air.
4
Take turns with your child to lead the game and suggest different scenarios.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Do some simple stretches together first to warm up.
E
Engage:
- “Let’s act out being stuck!”
- “First, let’s think of some different ways we might get stuck.”
E
Encourage:
- Include simple, familiar poses and scenarios.
- Describe what you are doing as you demonstrate. “I’m going to lie down and stay still because I’m pretending to be stuck to a sticky bed. Let’s try it together.”
R
Reflect:
- “Which pose was the hardest for you? What did you do to encourage yourself when you tried it?”
Not quite ready?
Use simple and familiar movements and scenarios, like pretending to be stuck sitting in a car.
Ready for more?
Include more challenging movements, like acting out pictures or scenarios from their favorite books.

As your child masters this skill...
They’ll demonstrate stability, strength, balance and control with their body movements.
