time-for-what

Time for What?

Here's What To Do

1

Point to a clock in your home and say, "Look, here’s a clock! It helps us know what time it is."

2

Hold up a familiar object or picture and ask, "What do we do when it’s breakfast time? The clock tells us when to eat!"

3

Use the clock to pretend: "When the clock says 7, it’s time to brush teeth!" Use your finger to point to the clock while explaining.

4

Name other daily activities your child knows, like napping or playing, and ask, "What do we do when the clock says this time?" Guide their responses if needed.

Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Put away distractions and stretch your arms way up high and then down low.
E

Engage:

  • "Can you find a clock in this room? What do we do when it’s time to play?"
  • "What else do you think we can do when the clock says it’s bedtime?"
E

Encourage:

  • "Wow, you remembered what we do at breakfast time! That’s amazing!"
  • “Are you sure that we go to sleep at midnight? Let’s think about our day, and try again!”
R

Reflect:

  • “Did you like pretending about the time for play or sleep the most?”
