Show Me How to Move

Here's What To Do

1

Let your child take the lead in a fun family movement game.

2

Your child can look at movements or poses in books or pictures, then model how to do them for the whole family to try. They can even use funny voices to describe the move while you pose with funny faces!

3

Your child can also make up some movements and poses they’d like to show you how to do.

4

Other family members can take turns leading too!

Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Take a few deep breaths and do some whole body stretches together.
E

Engage:

  • “Let’s play a game where you’ll be in charge!”
  • “You’ll pick a move or pose you see in a book (or picture) and teach us how to do it!”
E

Encourage:

  • Pre-select some pictures or poses your child is already familiar with and able to do.
  • Do the pose and move together first, then have your child show you on their own for you to copy.
R

Reflect:

  • “Show me your favorite move (or pose).”

Not quite ready?

Practice a few simple moves together before your child demonstrates them.

Ready for more?

Encourage your child to show two movements or poses in a quick sequence. You can also include objects they teach you how to use, balance or move.
