Ribbon Play
Here's What To Do
1
Gather 2-5 differently colored ribbons. Loosely tie the ribbons to the tips of your fingers.
2
Sit your baby in your lap or lay them on their back.
3
Dangle the ribbons in front of your baby to see, grasp, and pull.
4
Describe your actions and the colors of each of the ribbons as you play.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Smile and hug your baby before you begin this activity.
E
Engage:
- "Do you see this ribbon? This color is red!"
- Move your hands up and down, side to side.
E
Encourage:
- Notice if there are any movements your baby likes best, and repeat them.
- If your baby grasps a ribbon, stop moving your hands so they can pull the ribbon off and explore its texture. If they put the ribbon in their mouth, gently pull it out.
R
Reflect:
- How did your baby interact with you during this activity?
Not quite ready?
Your child may not be able to reach for or grab the ribbons yet, but they can still enjoy a back-and-forth interaction with you.
Ready for more?
Give your baby ribbons to hold. See how they explore them, and if they try handing them to you to play with too.

As your child masters this skill...
They will enjoy a color and texture sensory experience.
