Here's What To Do
1
Tell your child you're going to play a repeating and following game.
2
Give your child a direction. Ask them to repeat the words out loud, and then follow the directions with their bodies.
3
Switch roles- have your child give you directions which you repeat and then follow.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Smile and wave to your child. Ask them to wave back to show they're ready.
E
Engage:
- "First you'll repeat my direction, and then you'll follow the direction. Ready? Stand up! Say, 'stand up!'. Now go ahead and do it."
- Other example directions: "Take three steps forward!", "Touch your toes!", "Put your hands on your head!", "Cover your eyes!"
E
Encourage:
- To help your child succeed, keep your directions clear and short. Make eye contact with your child when you give the direction.
- If your child forgets to repeat the direction out loud before doing it, repeat it again and give them a chance to try again.
R
Reflect:
- "Who else could play this game with us next time?"
Not quite ready?
Practice having your child repeat a phrase after you say it out loud.
Ready for more?
Play the game with a two-step direction.

As your child masters this skill...
They will be able to accurately repeat and follow a direction.
