Photo Puzzle

Here's What To Do

1

Print a photo of your child in 5x7 or 8x10 size. (if printing is difficult, use a photo from a magazine instead)

2

Cut the photo into 10 or less puzzle pieces. The pieces can be simple strips or geometric shapes.

3

Work with your child to put the photo back together.

Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Give your child a high five!
E

Engage:

  • "I cut apart this picture to make a puzzle. Do you know what the puzzle will be when it's done?"
  • "Can you put your picture puzzle back together?"
E

Encourage:

  • Try to let your child place the puzzle pieces themselves. They learn best through trial-and-error.
  • Give your child hints, like: "That piece is in the right spot, but you need to turn it."
R

Reflect:

  • Did your child have enough motor control to line up the pieces in the right way?

Not quite ready?

Cut a picture into bigger strips or shapes of 6 pieces or less.

Ready for more?

Cut a picture into smaller shapes (up to 20 pieces).
