Your Child Will Learn

How to extend a simple pattern.

Here's What To Do

1

Invite your child to go on a walk with you around the community to look for patterns.

2

Call out patterns by saying, “Look I see a driveway and a yard, a driveway and a yard, a driveway and a yard. What comes next?

3

In stores, look at tile patterns on walls or floors and point them out. Say, “Look I see a pattern on the floor tiles red-white-white, red-white-white, red-white-white. What comes next?

4

Look for patterns in gardens, in buildings, in windows and encourage your child to identify the pattern.

5

Repeat a few times during your walk.
