My Body Parts Can ___
Here's What To Do
Talk with your child about their body parts and all the different things they help them to do.
Ask your child to draw a picture showing them doing their favorite activity. Then, they can share about all the body parts that help them do this activity.
Throughout the day, you can also highlight all the things your body parts can do. For example, while dancing together, highlight the body parts that help you, or the body parts that help you to smell the flowers at the store.
Put PEER Into Action
Pause:
- Get ready by standing together on your tiptoes and raising your hands in the air.
Engage:
- “Our body parts help us to do everything! I see that you’re dancing. Which of your body parts help you when you dance?”
- “Now we’re reading a book. Which body parts are we using now?”
Encourage:
- “That’s a great picture of you dancing. I can see your arms, legs and feet all helping you to move!”
- “Let’s think together about all of the body parts we use when we’re reading. What else besides our eyes help us read?”
Reflect:
- ‘What’s your favorite body part? What does it help you do?”
Not quite ready?
Play different movement games to highlight different things your body parts can do. Describe the actions and the body parts used as you do them.
Ready for more?
Your child can also draw about their favorite body part and all the things it helps them to do.
As your child masters this skill...
They will express positive feelings about their body.
