Here's What To Do

Use a handheld mirror or one you can hold your baby in front of.

Add shapes to the mirror by drawing on it with a dry-erase marker, or draw shapes on sticky notes and put them on the mirror.

Hold your baby so they can look into the mirror.

Talk to them about what they're seeing.

Pause:

  • Give your baby a hug.

Engage:

  • Say to your baby, “who do you see in the mirror?"
  • Say the names of shapes on the mirror, and point to them as you say them.

Encourage:

  • Hold your baby close enough to the mirror so they can touch their reflection or the shape drawings.
  • Notice where your baby is looking, and talk about what they're seeing.

Reflect:

  • How did your baby react to seeing themselves and shapes in the mirror?
