Here's What To Do
1
Give me various stacking materials to play with. Besides standard blocks, I can stack books, sponges, small boxes, or food containers.
2
Show me how to build a tower of two or three, then invite me to try it myself.
3
Show me how to stack a smaller object on top of a larger one.
4
Continue to give me opportunities to practice stacking when I play.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Sit on the floor with me and give me a big hug.
E
Engage:
- "Watch Papi- I'm making a block tower. I'm going to put this block on top of the other one. Can you try?"
- "This small block can go on top of the bigger one. But look what happens if I put the bigger one on top of the smaller one. Uh oh!"
E
Encourage:
- Make it silly and fun when blocks fall over. This will encourage me to try again.
- If I'm having trouble, let me try stacking weighted boxes or blocks that stick together (with magnets or plastic "bristles"). These might be easier for me.
R
Reflect:
- Am I able to stack two blocks?
Not quite ready?
Help me practice stacking two blocks inside of a small box or container. The box will help support the blocks.
Ready for more?
Encourage me to make towers of 3 or more blocks.

As your child grows...
They will be able to successfully stack a two-block tower.
