Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Find a space to be able to jump and take two deep breaths together before starting.
E
Engage:
- Let’s try jumping and counting slowly. Now let’s try it faster.
- Let’s take turns jumping and counting to five. You go first and then I go.
E
Encourage:
- Calmly correct your child if their counting and jumping don’t match.
- “Let’s start jumping first and then we can count to five.”
R
Reflect:
- “How did you feel as you were jumping and counting? Was it hard or easy?”
Not quite ready?
Focus on counting from one to three.
Ready for more?
Try counting past five but make sure they keep counting as they jump.

As your child masters this skill...
They will be able to count to five with ease and apply counting to other daily tasks.
