How Do We Move When We ___?
Here's What To Do
1
Tell your child that you will play a game where you will pretend to move like you are doing different actions.
2
“We’ll move our bodies and act it out to show what we would look like.”
3
Suggest different scenarios (including funny ones) such as riding a dinosaur, flying in a helicopter, floating in space and walking on hot sand.
4
Take turns with your child to lead the game by demonstrating while suggesting different scenarios.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Do some simple stretches together first to warm up.
E
Engage:
- “We’re going to move and act like we are doing different actions in different places.”
- “First, let’s think of some different things we might act out doing. How would we look if we were ___?”
E
Encourage:
- Include simple, familiar poses and scenarios.
- Describe what you are doing as you demonstrate. “I’m going to jump up and down because I think walking on the moon would be bouncy. Jump with me.”
R
Reflect:
- “What other actions should we try the next time we play this game?”
Not quite ready?
Encourage your child to copy you as you use familiar movements and scenarios, such as pretending to sit in a car.
Ready for more?
Include more challenging movements, like acting out pictures or scenarios from their favorite books.

As your child masters this skill...
They’ll demonstrate the ability to imitate new body postures, and use movement to explore new environments.
