Family Project
Here's What To Do
1
Plan a task or project together as a family.
2
For example, plant a simple herb garden, or sort and donate gently used clothes or toys.
3
Encourage your child to help you to plan and carry out the project by identifying and collecting some of the materials you’ll need. For example, if you will donate used clothes or toys, your child can help you to choose items, pack them up and visit the donation center.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- As a family, talk together about why it’s important to work together as a team.
E
Engage:
- “Let’s think of a family project we can do together.”
- “What do you think we should do? Provide simple choices as needed. “We could donate clothes we aren’t wearing anymore to help others, or we could plant some herbs we can use in our cooking.
E
Encourage:
- Help your child to plan and think of the materials you’ll need.
- “If we are going to make an herb garden, what kind of herbs should we get? You like to eat roasted potatoes with rosemary. Rosemary is an herb. Should we get some rosemary?” ” “What will we put the plants in to help them grow? Can you help me find some empty pots?”
R
Reflect:
- “What do you think our next family project should be?”
Not quite ready?
Gather the materials together. Name the items and describe why you need them.
Ready for more?
Ask your child to plan and describe the steps you should take to complete the task.

As your child masters this skill...
They will describe and gather materials needed for tasks.
