Emotion Mosaic
Here's What To Do
1
Ask your child to close their eyes and notice what emotion they're feeling.
2
Help them draw a simple face that expresses that emotion.
3
Place small items (like: beans, seeds, pebbles, pom poms, wood chips, leaves) in a bowl.
4
Work with your child to glue the mosaic pieces on top of the lines and shapes on the face drawing.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Sit with your child and make different facial expressions to communicate different moods and feelings.
E
Engage:
- Tell your child, “Using small pieces to make lines and shapes is called mosaic art. We're going to make a mosaic of your face."
- Ask your child, “What are you feeling right now? What do people's eyes and mouths look like when they feel…”?
E
Encourage:
- It may work well if you put the glue on the lines and your child adds the pieces on top of the glue.
- Follow your child’s lead for gluing the mosaic pieces, as there is no right or wrong way to make this kind of art.
R
Reflect:
- Do you think your mosaic matches how you feel?
Not quite ready?
Make an abstract mosaic.
Ready for more?
Ask your child to design their own mosaic idea.

As your child masters this skill...
They will represent emotions with art.
