Comparing Dominos
Here's What To Do
1
Use dominos that add up to five. Place two dominos (face up) side by side on the table or countertop.
2
Ask your child to look at the dots on each domino. “How many dots are on this one? How about this one? Which has more? Which has less?”
3
Encourage them to match dominos with the same number of dots to identify groups that are the "same."
4
As you repeat, use words like "more," "less," or "equal" as you compare different dominos together.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Put away devices and count to ten together.
E
Engage:
- "Let’s look at these together. Do the dominoes have the same number of dots or are they different?”
- “Which side has more? Which side has less?"
E
Encourage:
- “You figured out which one has more all by yourself, I am so proud of you.”
- “It can get tricky to figure out which one has more, let's try again and this time I will count with you.”
R
Reflect:
- “What was easy about this activity? What was hard?”
Not quite ready?
Focus on one comparison skill at a time, same, less or more with smaller quantities.
Ready for more?
Have children compare quantities up to ten.

As your child masters this skill...
They will be able to compare quantities of 0-5 that have more, less or the same amounts.
