Clothing Word Challenge

Here's What To Do

1

Play a clothing vocabulary game with me when I'm getting dressed

2

Ask me to point to or bring you each item of clothing I need.

3

If it seems like I don't understand your question, answer it for me and show me the item of clothing you mean.

4

Celebrate if I find the correct item, and help me put it on.

Mother and child play together (animated).

Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Give me a hug before we begin.
E

Engage:

  • "First we need a shirt. Can you find a shirt in your drawer?"
  • "I think we need some socks before we put on your shoes. Where are your socks?"
E

Encourage:

  • "Oops! Those are pants, which are long. We're looking for shorts, which are shorter. Can you try again and look for shorts?"
  • "Wow, you are doing a great job looking for all these different clothes. What a big helper!"
R

Reflect:

  • Do I seem to know the words for most types of clothing I wear regularly?

Not quite ready?

Show me two different items of clothing, then ask me to identify one. Like: "Which one's your shirt?"

Ready for more?

Play this game with less common items of clothing whose names I might not know yet (like: "belt," "boots," "sweater," etc.).
