Your Child Will Learn

How to select a new book.

Here's What To Do

1

Visit the library together and encourage each family member to choose books they’d like to check out.

2

If they’re interested in a particular topic, ask the librarian, or help them to find that section so they can look through those specific books.

3

Help your young child to select their books by looking at the covers. You can read the title and description for them too.

4

They can also look through the pictures to help them decide.

  • “You can look at the covers of the book to help you decide.”
E

Encourage:

  • If your child isn’t sure which book to choose, they can choose a variety of books.
  • Read them together over time and talk about their preferences.
R

Reflect:

  • “Why did you choose this book?”

Not quite ready?

Give your child two choices that are based on their interests so they can choose a book for themself.

Ready for more?
