Build A Landmark
Here's What To Do
1
Read a nonfiction picture book (or look up information online) about a well-known structure like a bridge, monument, building, etc.
2
Give your child modeling materials like blocks, clay, play dough, straws and tape, or pretzel sticks and marshmallows to create a small model of this structure.
3
Display the model in a special place or have your child take it to school for show-and-tell.

Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Together, stretch your hands up to the sky and then down to your toes.
E
Engage:
- While reading the book, talk to your child about the lines, shapes, colors, and materials of the structure.
- Help your child make a plan to build a model of the structure.
E
Encourage:
- Ask your child how you can be helpful to them while they are building their structure.
- If the structure is not sturdy and falls apart, suggest techniques and strategies that will help support and hold the materials in place.
R
Reflect:
- Ask your child, “If you could build your own real landmark one day, what would it be and where would you build it”?
