Together find other ways to sort the books.

4

After sorting, invite your child to select the first book to read together.

Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Invite your child to select several books (3-4 books) for you to read together.
E

Engage:

  • While looking at the books, use descriptive words and have your child repeat them. For example, “I see this book has a big red dog, let's see if the other books have the big red dog too!”
  • “Can you tell me which of these is bigger or smaller? Which one do you think is heavier?
E

Encourage:

  • “Let’s try putting the books next to each other to see if they are the same size.”
  • “I like how you keep trying to find the correct group for each book, keep going!”
R

Reflect:

  • "How else could we sort the books next time?"

Not quite ready?

Focus on one way to describe and group items at a time.

Ready for more?
