Put PEER Into Action

P

Pause:

  • Point to your ears together as you get ready to listen to vehicle sounds!
E

Engage:

  • Express excitement as you hear a new sound. Your enthusiasm will help your child enjoy the activity too.
  • “Wow, that was a strong sound! Why do you think it was so loud?”
E

Encourage:

  • If your child prefers to notice a different type of sound, that’s okay too. Let their interest lead you!
  • Give your child specific praise when they notice a vehicle sound. “Wow, you noticed the sound that bus made as it drove past.”
R

Reflect:

  • “Where would you like to go next time to hear more vehicle sounds?”

Not quite ready?

If your child isn’t ready to name or guess the vehicles, simply describe the sounds you hear together. Point out the vehicles so they can begin to connect the noises with what they see.

Ready for more?

If your child is ready for more challenge, ask them to describe the sound or name more than one vehicle it might belong to.
