Head Start Homework
This Week
Use these activities to learn with your child every day!
Language & Literacy
Story Parts
- Read a book with your child.
- At the end of the story, ask your child who the main character was.
- Ask your child to remember what happened in the beginning and end of the story.
- Repeat for each book you read this week!
Math
Adding Up Snacks
- Put 5 small pieces of food (like cereal) on a plate. Count with your child.
- Ask your child: "How many more do you need to add up to 10?"
- Check their answer. Add [amount child answered] to the plate and count again. Are there 10 total?
- Repeat, starting with different amounts of food between 1-9. When you're done playing, eat your snack!
Social Studies
Family Treasures
- Select an object from the past that means something special to your family. It can be an old family heirloom that was passed down to you from an older family member, or it can be something from more recent family history (like your child's first pair of baby shoes).
- Ask your child to describe what they see and how they think it might have been used.
- Explain the history of the object and any memories it brings up for you.
- Ask your child to explain how this object from the past is connected to them in the present ("now"). Why do they think this object might be important to your family? How does something old connect to what is happening right now?
