Head Start Homework
This Week
Use these activities to learn with your child every day!
Language & Literacy
Rhyme Bingo
- Print the Rhyme Bingo card to play this game.
- Ask your child to look at the pictures and find two words that rhyme. When they find a pair, have them say the words out loud.
- If it's a rhyming pair, have your child put an X through the words' squares (or color/mark them in another way). You can also use coins or other small objects to put on top of the squares so you can reuse the card again and again.
- When they've got 5 squares in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), they've won! (Optional: keep playing and see how many different Bingos your child can make).
Math
Count and Snack
- Tell your child that they will be counting their snacks before they eat them.
- Show them how to count two snacks, touching and sliding one piece at a time. Make sure you count each piece as you slide it down in front of you.
- Ask your child to count out three pieces, making sure to slide and count each piece until they reach the number three, and then tell them to eat the snack.
- Repeat various times counting one through five pieces.
Approaches to Learning
How Would You Feel?
- As you’re reading stories with characters who have simple problems, ask your child how they would feel in a similar situation, and what they might do to help that character. Then, talk about how that character might feel after your child helped them.
- Instead of using books, you can also talk about relevant scenarios with your child. You can even involve your family to make decisions! For example, talk together about how you would feel and what you would do if you knew that a neighbor needed help with their gardening. Then, talk about how the neighbor might respond and feel.
