Week 30

Head Start Homework

This Week

Use these activities to learn with your child every day!

Language & Literacy

Community I Spy

  1. Plan an outing in your community, like a visit to the park, a pond, or shopping center.
  2. Look around and identify an object whose name is a simple one-syllable word.
  3. Play "I Spy," giving your child a hint about the beginning, middle, or end sound of a word. See if your child can guess it. Celebrate when they get it right!
  4. Repeat with other words around you.

Math

Domino Dot Addition

  1. Place dominos on a table or countertop. Choose a domino and place it in front of your child. Cover one side of the domino with your hand.
  2. Say: “Let’s count the dots we see on this side. How many are there? Now let’s count the other side, How many are there?”
  3. Next count them all. “This side has 2 dots, and this side has 2 dots. Let’s count them all... 1, 2, 3, 4! That makes 4!”
  4. Repeat with a few more dominos.

School Family Quilt

BRING BACK
  1. Talk with your child about your family story. You can talk about:
    • Who is in your family. Include immediate family, grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins.
    • Your ancestors: what were their names? Where did they live?
  2. Talk about what part of your family story you might be able to show on the quilt square cut-out that your teacher has provided for you.
  3. Make your family story on the quilt square together. You can draw with permanent marker or pen, glue or paste items onto the square, or use paint (puffy paint or fabric paint works best).
  4. Return your family's quilt square to school, where it will be combined with other children's squares into a School Family Quilt.
