Head Start Homework
This Week
Use these activities to learn with your child every day!
Language & Literacy
Telling Stories About Me
- Think of a story about your child’s life that you’d like to share. It can be something funny or special that captures something about who they are, or just an experience that you remember that brings a smile to your face.
- When telling the story, be sure to include when and where the story took place, who was there, and what happened. If you have photos or special mementos related to your story, show them to your child as you share!
- Ask your child to identify the beginning, middle, and end of your story.
- Invite your child to take ideas from the story in the past and connect it to their life. They can tell another story to you if they'd like!
Math
Writing in Flour
- Tell your child that they will be writing numbers using flour.
- They can write the numbers 0-10 in any order,
- Encourage writing the numbers they know first.
- Say, “Let’s write some numbers, what number do you want to write first?” Write the numbers with your child.
Approaches to Learning
Asleep Awake
- Tell your child that you’re going to play a game and pretend to be awake and asleep.
- With your child, quickly brainstorm and act out ways they can show they are awake (e.g. dancing and talking). Then, do it again to show “asleep” (e.g. closing eyes, sleeping quietly).
- Explain that when you call out “awake” they’ll act like they’re awake. When you call out “asleep” they’ll act like they’re asleep.
- Take turns leading the game with your child.
