Head Start Homework
February 2nd, 2026 - February 8th, 2026
Use these activities to learn with your child every day!
Language & Literacy
Letter Sounds
- Find pictures (on the internet, in magazines, or in books) of three letter words like cat, bed, sun, etc..
- Show your child one picture, and say the sound of the first letter in that word.
- When your child answers correctly, invite them to write the letter on a piece of paper (you can write the letter for them if needed).
- Continue until you've spelled the entire word together. Repeat for more three-letter words.
Math
Months of the Year
BRING BACK
- Divide a piece of drawing paper into 4 squares, one for each season. Label each square with a season and the months in each season (Winter: December, January, February, Spring: March, April, May, Summer: June, July, August, Fall: September, October, November).
- Ask your child to brainstorm things that happen in each season.
- Have your child draw one (or more) items to represent each season.
- Talk about the months in each season. Discuss how there are 12 months in a year, and how all the seasons and months repeat year after year.
Social Studies
Explore A Local Landmark
- Visit a local landmark (a building, statue, sign, tree, hill, park, etc.).
- Explain that a landmark is something big that can be seen from a distance and can help people find their way around.
- Ask your child to describe the landmark's characteristics.
- Talk about how you might use the landmark to get where you're going.
