Week 13

Head Start Homework

This Week

Use these activities to learn with your child every day!

Language & Literacy

Draw a Memory

  1. At the end of the week, ask your child to remember one fun thing that happened that week.
  2. Ask them to draw or paint a picture of the fun thing.
  3. When they're finished, ask them to tell you more about the picture. Write their responses on their drawing.
  4. Read their description back to them.

Shopping for Numbers

  1. Before heading to a store, make a "number shopping list"- write numbers 1-20 on a piece of paper and draw a checkbox next to each number.
  2. When you arrive at the store, ask your child to look for each number (in aisle numbers, price signs, on packaging).
  3. When your child finds a number, ask them to make a mark in the checkbox next to it.
  4. Can your child find all numbers 1-20? If they do, celebrate with a high five or a silly dance!

Spotting Landmarks

  1. Plan a trip for your child to experience riding public transportation, like a bus, train, tram, light rail, or ferry (ideally something where you can look out the window together).
  2. Ask your child to notice familiar landmarks at your starting destination.
  3. Sit near a window. Throughout your journey, encourage your child to point out familiar places and landmarks they see.
  4. Ask your child to notice familiar landmarks at your ending destination.
