Language & Literacy

Learning to Wave Bye-Bye

  1. Let me see and hear you wave "bye-bye" in a variety of situations throughout the day.
  2. Play a "bye-bye" game when putting away toys. Say "bye-bye" to each toy as you put it away, and encourage me to wave bye-bye.
  3. When you see me wave bye-bye in an appropriate situation, celebrate!

Silly Squealing

  1. Try some silly games to see if you can get me to squeal with delight. I'll make a sudden burst of high pitched vowel sounds like "eeee!" to let you know that I'm happy.
  2. Games to try:
    • "I'm Gonna Get You!"
    • Making funny faces at me.

Playground Positions

  1. Bring a small toy to the playground.
  2. Ask your child to cover their eyes. Hide the toy somewhere on the playground.
  3. Help your child find the toy using positional words. (examples: above/below, in front/behind, between, next to, inside/outside, over/under, near/far, top/bottom).
  4. Repeat!

Health & Wellness

Hot, Cold, Sweet, and Sour

  1. Try a tasting experiment with me!
  2. First, give me something that's warm, and something that's cold. Encourage me to put these in my mouth and feel the different temperatures. Examples:
    • A piece of fruit or vegetable straight from the fridge, and a piece that's been warmed for a few seconds in the microwave or on the stove
    • A washcloth wet with cold water, a washcloth wet with warm water
  3. Next, give me one food that's sweet and one that's sour. Encourage me to taste them.
    • Sweet examples: fruit, applesauce, baby food
    • Sour examples: lemon, lime, grapefruit
  4. If I'm having fun with this tasting game, help me taste condiments with different spices. Examples:
    • Ketchup, mustard, mild salsa or hot sauce, soy sauce, or whatever's in your fridge!
