Use these activities to learn with your child every day!
Activities for Infants
Language & Literacy
Learning to Wave Bye-Bye
- Let me see and hear you wave "bye-bye" in a variety of situations throughout the day.
- Play a "bye-bye" game when putting away toys. Say "bye-bye" to each toy as you put it away, and encourage me to wave bye-bye.
- When you see me wave bye-bye in an appropriate situation, celebrate!
Physical
Can I Get It?
- Place me on the floor in a tummy time position. Play "Can You Get It?"
- Attract my attention with a favorite toy.
- Place it by my side, about 6" away from my hip
- If I'm able to pivot to grab a toy, play "Can You Get It Up High?"
- When I'm on my tummy, hold out a toy high enough in front of me that I'll need to reach for it.
- Gradually increase the height of the toy to challenge my reaching skills.
- Celebrate when I successfully reach a toy!

Learning to Say Your Names
- Play "peek-a-boo" emphasizing your name.
- When you hear me babble my name for you, respond with delight! This is how I learn that my vocalizations mean something.
- Throughout the day, point to yourself while emphasizing your name. Like: "You gave Tia a kiss!"
- When I begin to say your name on purpose, I may be trying to ask you something. Try interpreting my thoughts aloud, like: "Oh, it looks like you need help with that. Daadee's coming."
Physical
Fast Freeze, Slow Freeze
- Tell your child that you will play a game where you will move fast or slow, and then freeze. Then, you’ll start moving again.
- “I’ll say “dance fast or dance slow.” Then, I’ll say “freeze” and you have to freeze and stop until I say “go.””
- Take turns leading the game.
