Activities for Infants
Language & Literacy
Waves, Taps, and Claps
- Choose a simple rhyme or rhyming song to say to your child.
- Wave your hands, tap your child's body, or clap to emphasize the words that rhyme.
- Repeat the rhyme a few times, encouraging your child to mimic your movements (you may have to gently guide their hands to do the movements).
- Try the game with other rhymes.
Creativity
Ribbon Play
- Gather 2-5 differently colored ribbons. Loosely tie the ribbons to the tips of your fingers.
- Sit your baby in your lap or lay them on their back.
- Dangle the ribbons in front of your baby to see, grasp, and pull.
- Describe your actions and the colors of each of the ribbons as you play.
Activities for Toddlers
Language & Literacy
Let’s Get Dressed
- Put out some of your child’s clothing on their bed, a table, or flat surface.
- Pick up each clothing item and say its name as your child gets dressed.
- Describe the colors and textures of the clothing and name the body part that the clothing goes on.
- Encourage your child to repeat the words you're saying.
