Spot the Clock
Here's What To Do
1
While out in the community (e.g., grocery store, park, or library), tell your child, "We’re going on a clock hunt! Let’s see how many clocks we can find!"
2
Look for clocks together (e.g., on a store wall, on your phone, or at a bus stop). Say, "Look! There’s a clock. Do you see it too?"
3
Point out what kind of clock it is: "This one is a digital clock, and it shows numbers. That one is a big round clock with hands!"
4
Repeat throughout the time that you’re outside, making it a game that you can play during various outings.
Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Put away distractions and give your child a hug before starting.
E
Engage:
- "Where do you think we might see a clock? Can we find one on the outside of a building or inside a store?"
- "Why do you think there are clocks here?"
E
Encourage:
- "I like how you’re noticing the differences between the clocks. You’re becoming a clock expert!"
- “I know you’re getting frustrated that we haven’t seen a clock in a while. Let’s keep looking – I bet we’ll find one soon!”
R
Reflect:
- “What do clocks help people do?"
