Exploring Nature Adventure
Here's What To Do
1
Take your child outside – to your back yard, or to a local park and recreational area. You can even do this activity anywhere outside, even on city streets!
2
Encourage your child to explore their surroundings, looking for leaves, rocks, flowers, or insects.
3
Do your best to give them space. Step back and let them engage in independent observation while keeping them safe..
4
Suggest they look under rocks, listen to birds, or collect special nature treasures to bring home.
Put PEER Into Action
P
Pause:
- Go outside with your child and hold your hands together before you begin.
E
Engage:
- "What kind of bug do you think that is? What do you think that the bug is doing?"
- "What kinds of sounds do you hear the birds making? Where do you think the birds are? Can you see them?"
E
Encourage:
- It’s okay to let your child explore. If they seem nervous or hesitant, start your exploration together, and gradually let them explore on their own.
- "I like how curious you are about the world around you!"
R
Reflect:
- "What was the most exciting thing you discovered today?"
