Week 48

Head Start Homework

July 20th, 2026 - July 26th, 2026

Use these activities to learn with your child every day!

Language & Literacy

Reading Connections

  1. Invite your child to read with you and let them pick the book you’ll read together.
  2. Before you begin, point out the title of the book and name the author and illustrator.
  3. As you read, talk about parts of the story that remind you of something from your own life or another book you’ve read.
  4. Explain that making connections means thinking about how the story is like something you've seen, done, or felt before. Encourage your child to share any parts of the story that remind them of their own life or experiences.

Kitchen Sorting

  1. Ask your child for help putting away kitchen items like dishes, utensils, pots. (Before you begin, you can put away items that might not be safe for a child to handle.)
  2. Before putting items where they belong, ask your child to sort them into categories that might help you put them away.
  3. Ask your child why they sorted the items this way. If you usually organize items in a different way, explain your system and ask your child to re-sort by a different characteristic.
  4. (Optional) Ask your child to put items back where they belong. Celebrate when everything is put away!

  2. Show your child how to fold the strips back and forth like an accordion. Help them fold the rest of the strips on their own.
  3. Invite your child to glue each end of the paper strips to a base sheet of paper.
  4. Encourage your child to layer and cross the folded strips so the paper turns into a 3D paper sculpture.
