Week 28

Head Start Homework

March 2nd, 2026 - March 8th, 2026

Use these activities to learn with your child every day!

Language & Literacy

Letter Hide and Seek

  1. Think of familiar 3-letter words with a vowel in the middle. Examples: cup, kid, top, nap, bus, pen, fox, get, cat, dog, etc.
  2. Draw a rectangle and divide it into 3 boxes. Choose one of your 3-letter words. Write the first letter in the first box and last letter in the last box. Be sure to leave out the middle letter.
  3. Say the word out loud, then sound out the first and last letter. Ask your child which letter is the missing one that makes the sound in the middle. You or your child can write the letter inside the middle box.
  4. Repeat with more 3-letter words.

Math

Reaching High and Low to 20

  1. Invite your child to reach high and low while counting to 20.
  2. Show your child how to reach high and low, first put both arms straight up in the air and reach up high and then bend down and reach for the floor, repeat that movement a few times.
  3. Start with your arms at your side, count when your arms are up high and count when your arms are down low.
  4. Example, arms up “one,” arms reaching to the floor “two,” arms up high “three,” arms reaching to the floor “four,” and repeat the movement again until you reach the number twenty.
  5. Invite your child to lead the counting and have them count faster, slower or with a different voice.

Creativity

Pop Art Portrait

BRING BACK
  1. Help your child cut out different shapes like circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares from colored paper.
  2. Invite them to decorate the shapes with patterns such as stripes, dots, or zigzags.
  3. Explain that an abstract self-portrait is a creative picture of themselves made with shapes and colors instead of realistic drawings.
  4. Ask your child to arrange the shapes to make their abstract self-portrait, then glue the shapes down. Once dry, they can add extra details with markers or crayons if they’d like.
